The Healthy Trade Institute (HTI) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that certifies U.S. businesses that sell pet reptiles and amphibians in healthy trade operations, such as using disinfectants, testing animals for diseases of concern, and quarantining and treating sick animals. The HTI also is launching the first-ever, nationwide U.S. Herp Adoption Program in May 2025. Animals that are surrendered to the HTI will undergo a thorough health examination and be certified as pathogen-free for key diseases. Businesses and individuals can adopt amphibians and reptiles from the HTI, and know they are receiving certified rescue pets that exceed industry standards for animal health.
